Job Title: Customs Licensed Broker
Location: Raleigh, North Carolina (RDU Airport)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Customs Licensed Broker to join our team. As a Customs Broker, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of goods across international borders, by managing customs clearance procedures. This includes ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, handling customs documentation, and managing relationships with clients and government agencies. The ideal candidate will hold a valid customs broker license and possess strong knowledge of customs regulations and import/export procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Customs Clearance: Manage the process of clearing shipments through U.S. Customs and other regulatory agencies by submitting accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with all applicable import/export regulations.
Customs Declarations: Prepare and submit necessary import and export declarations, including entry forms, bills of lading, invoices, and other supporting documents.
Classify Goods: Ensure the correct classification of goods using the Harmonized System (HS) codes and determine applicable duties, taxes, and tariffs.
Duty and Tax Calculation: Calculate and arrange for the payment of any required duties, taxes, and fees for imported goods.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with changes in U.S. and international trade laws, ensuring that all shipments comply with relevant customs regulations, including ISF filings, export compliance, and other government requirements.
Client Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, answering questions about customs procedures, providing advice on regulatory matters, and resolving any issues that may arise during the customs process.
Documentation Management: Maintain accurate and organized records of all customs transactions, entry forms, and related documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
Audit Support: Provide support during audits, ensuring that all necessary documentation and records are available for review.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks related to non-compliance, ensuring that all shipments comply with both domestic and international trade laws to avoid fines, delays, and penalties.
Collaboration with Agencies: Coordinate with government agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other authorities, to resolve issues and clear shipments through customs efficiently.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in customs brokerage, international trade, or logistics.
Proven experience managing customs compliance and clearing goods through U.S. Customs.
Licenses/Certifications:
Customs Broker License (CBL) issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is required .
Additional certifications in logistics, customs, or international trade are a plus.
Skills:
Knowledge of Customs Regulations: In-depth understanding of U.S. Customs laws, regulations, and procedures, including tariff codes, trade compliance, and documentation requirements.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail in preparing and reviewing documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all regulations.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory information to clients and work effectively with customs authorities.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues related to customs clearance, tariff classification, and trade compliance.
Time Management: Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving abilities to quickly address and resolve issues related to customs clearance and regulatory compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with import/export systems such as Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and Automated Broker Interface (ABI).
Knowledge of global trade regulations and other country-specific customs requirements.
Familiarity with freight forwarding and international shipping procedures.
Ability to work with clients from diverse industries, including retail, manufacturing, and automotive.
