Job Description

Lewistown Valley Enterprises, Inc., dba Koch's Turkey Farm, is a family owned operationin business since 1939. We grow and process antibiotic free and organic turkey and turkey products for national and local retail and wholesale. Our facility employs over 250 team members which includes our processing facility and onsite growing department. In addition we work with and support over 20 grower farms accross the state.WHO IS RIGHT FOR THIS POSITON?Ideally an individual with a combination of formal safety and environmental education and basic experience and knowledge of meat processing facilities. Someone who currently sits in a Safety/EHS coordinator or supervisor role reporting to a Director or Manager that is ready for the next step in his or her career into a hands on manager role.Safety and Environmental Manager Job Description Establishes and enforces a safe and compliant operational environment.Is responsible for the development and implementation of health, safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures, along with conducting regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.ResponsibilitiesDevelops and executes health, safety and environmental compliant plans in the workplace according to legal guidelinesPrepares and enforces policies to establish a culture of health and safetyEvaluates practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the local, state and federal lawConduct training of, and presentations to, team members on health, safety and environmental mattersDevelops and monitors accident and incident prevention plans; trains team on prevention and responseMonitors compliance with policies and laws by inspecting employees and operationsPersonally inspect facilities to identify safety, health, and environmental risksEnsures compliance with recordkeeping, monitoring and reportingFunctions as emergency coordinator - develop and drive emergency response and business continuity initiativesAssist in the development and education of goals and objectives that will lead the organization to world class safety performanceDevelop and implement inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspectionsIdentify needs, implement, coordinate, and lead continuous training program efforts including annual training, new hire training, refresher training, toolbox talks, and authorized level training for specific programs; works with human resources to document and track team member health, safety and environmental trainings to ensure completion and updatingActively participates and leads local efforts in EHS and OSHA related incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementationResponsible for promoting safety leadership (meaning active participation) reinforcement, demonstrated management and commitment to safety practices from the most senior levelInvestigate accidents or incidents to discover causesWorks with human resources in managing workman?s compensation claimsCommunication & AdministrationServes as the organization?s contact for all communications with environmental regulatory agenciesKeeps executive team and the leadership team informed of problems and important matters that impact them as they ariseWorks with vendors to ensure all work is completed in compliance with OSHA and EHS policiesObserves and enforces all company and environmental policies and proceduresProgram ManagementCoordinates the environmental and safety systems by monitoring document accuracy; leads departmental meetings and committees, audits, identifies gaps and other opportunities for improvement.Maintains and edits Safety Injury and Illnesses Prevention documentationEnsures that certifications are met for the Environmental and Safety sections.Facilitates and participates in environmental compliance and internal auditsManages water treatment program including periodic inspections and maintenance programRecommends solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measuresQUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:2-5 years of food processing safety and environmental experience or a combination of education and experienceKnowledge of safety and environmental exposures and regulations in a meat processing facility; animal raising farm exposure is a plusStrong coaching, facilitation and hands-on skills with a strong track record of successful change management who engages team members and provides clarity to help them understand the change and seeks feedback to give them ownership.Demonstrated critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task and meet challenging deadlinesProficient written communication skills in business correspondence and other required documents;
