Job Description

Position: Residential Counselor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department/Division: Adult Community Clinical Services (ACCS)

Supervised by: Program Manager

General Statement of Duties : To provide rehabilitation and support services to Persons being served in Group Living Environments (GLE) and to do so in a manner that promotes growth, independence and dignity for those individuals served.

Responsibilities :

Direct Care

1. Attend to the daily needs of persons served on an individual basis as well as foster increased independence and self-determination.

2. Deliver interventions identified on Treatment Plans and with mentoring from licensed clinicians.

3. Teach socialization skills and Activities of Daily Living (ADL's), which include but are not limited to household maintenance, laundry, grocery shopping, food preparation, medication management, money management, personal care, exercise, transportation, problem solving skills, time management, and safety/self preservation.

4. Follow the Department of Public Health's (DPH) Medication Administration Program (MAP) policies, which include, but are not limited to training requirements, medication administration, medication security, and corresponding documentation.

5. Supervise and document consumer self-administration of medications as prescribed by a physician in accordance with agency and program procedures.

6. Facilitate opportunities for group and individual community-based activities.

7. Fulfill case management responsibilities as assigned by supervisor, including those related to medical and legal concerns.

8. Assist in the implementation of Individualized Action Plans (IAP's) including implementation of behavioral objectives/plans.

9. Participate in meetings as required by supervisor.

10. Participate in housekeeping and other assigned tasks to ensure a clean, safe living environment for persons served.

11. Transport individuals served to and from day programs, medical appointments and other activities as required.

12. Act as individuals' advocate and role model.

Communication, Documentation & Teamwork

13. Follow funder and agency protocol for reporting significant incidents and alleged abuse and/or neglect.

14. Record data by the conclusion of each shift. Documentation requirements include, but are not limited to daily service notes, staff communication log, financial audits, and medication records.

15. Facilitate and document fire drills as instructed by the program manager or designee.

16. Ensure person served safety and compliance with program standards for staff coverage, including assistance to the Administrator-On-Call whenever possible.

17. Maintain knowledge of ongoing program issues and developments as well as informing supervisor of program issues and concerns.

18. Communicate in a professional and respectful manner.

19. Assist with training and orienting employees new to the program.

20. Treat all individuals, employees, and visitors with respect and dignity.

21. Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings.

Other

22. Follow funder regulations and adhere to all BAMSI policies.

23. Understand and utilize universal/standard precautions and instructions on how to stay safe in areas that constitute risk, including following persons served Risk and Safety Plans as applicable.

24. Obtain required training within allotted time frames.

25. Complete all other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications :
•High school diploma or equivalency.
•Previous experience working with individuals with mental health issues preferred.
•A valid driver's license in state of residence and satisfactory driving record.
•Ability to speak and write English clearly and accurately to keep documentation up to date and understandable.
•Basic computer literacy, including the ability to record data, use electronic medical records, use electronic time and attendance software, and receive and send electronic mail, is required.
•Effective listening and critical thinking skills.
•Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with persons served, families, service providers and funding source personnel.
•Ability to reach, bend, stand, sit, and walk; perform fine motor activities.
•Preference given to candidates with lived experience and fluency in languages prevalent in Southeastern MA.
