Our missionis to provide superb clinical care to our patients, educate the next generationof orthopaedic surgeons and expand the orthopaedic knowledge base through basic,clinical and translational research utilizing excellent, evidence-based,efficient patient care along with thorough and responsive consultation in orthopaedicspine services for orthopaedic patients across the health system.Chief Purpose of this position:We are seeking candidates todirectly care for patients in the orthopaedic spine service line. The candidatewill improve quality and efficiency of orthopaedic services at VCU HealthSystem and provide prompt high-quality orthopaedic spine care. The incumbentwill assist and develop orthopaedic faculty with interest in new technologies,clinical research and teaching along with mentoring residents and fellows andworking within the hospital system and with other departments to provide multidisciplinarycare for orthopaedic spine patients.Position Responsibilities: TeachingThe candidate will staff inpatient services with learnersincluding medical students, interns and residents; use contemporary adultlearning methods to promote evidence-based practice; demonstrate effectiveteaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at alllevels; complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner.ResearchThecandidate will participate in clinical and administrative research, accordingto skills, interest and funding; research opportunities may include performanceimprovement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations;participation may be as principal investigator or co-investigator; maintain alevel of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery consistent with academic rank.ServiceThe candidate will work with institutional staff andadministration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System,including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenanceand enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.ClinicalThe candidate will admit and manage patients who presentthrough the orthopaedic spine service, co-management of patients on otherservices, triage medicine patient requiring admission in the EmergencyDepartment and non-medical services and non-VCU hospitals; join colleagues inassuring coverage 24-hours a day, every day of the year; comply in a timelymanner with all institutional policies for professional work includingcredentialing, documentation, billing; work effectively with other members ofthe extended inter-professional team.Regulatory and ComplianceThe candidate will ensure compliance with all regulatory andregulatory reimbursement requirement.DiversityDemonstrated experience in, or commitment to, working within and fostering an inclusive environment for diverse faculty, staff, and students, in alignment with VCU's values.Required Qualifications: M.D. degree and ABOScertification/eligibility in Orthopaedic Surgery.Must have successfully completed an accredited fellowship program in OrthopaedicSpine Surgery.Record of scholarly publication in peer review journals.Direct experience managing complex orthopaedic spine cases, competence instandard inpatient procedures.Solid understanding of the orthopaedic spine role and function and interestin teaching and growth in an academic setting.Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated ability towork as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal andwritten.Interest in furthering the research, scholarly and academic missions of thegroup.ORP Eligible: YesPosition Type: MCVPFull time equivalent: 1.0Tenure: IneligibleRank: OpenMonths: Department:VCU Health - Orthopaedic SurgerySalary: Commensurate with experienceContact Information:Contact Name: Mario LacicContact Email: Mario.Lacic@vcuhealth.orgContact Phone: Virginia Commonwealth University
