Nature of Work The City of Everett is accepting applications on an appointive basis for the position of
Municipal Court Security Officer with our Municipal Court. This will be part-time work, 22.50 hours per week.

About the Department: Working in the Judicial Branch of Government gives the Everett Municipal Court Team the opportunity to serve a diverse community and provide them with access to justice. As a court of Limited Jurisdiction, Everett Municipal Court processes criminal and civil cases and offers pre-trial diversion and therapeutic alternatives.
About the Job :
Under the direction of the Municipal Court Administrator, maintain order and security in the Municipal Court facility. Responsibilities include performing a variety of courtroom duties to ensure the productive and efficient operations of the Municipal Court. Work involves preparation of courtroom and facilities, including monitoring security scanner and weapons detectors as well as controlling defendants and jurors. Work is reviewed for adherence to established policies and procedures.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: Maintain order and security in the Municipal Court; monitor security scanner and weapons detector at courtroom entrance; search belongings of people entering the court building; pat down search of person only if needed, subdue and control court visitors as necessary.
Operate security cameras, retrieve data and video content for viewing and recording.
Direct jurors to appropriate courtroom and jury room.
Prepare courtroom and facilities for operation, including opening and closing court; posting court calendars and providing courtrooms with supplies as needed.
Supervise custody of in-court commitments; supervise the transfer and custody of prisoners within the Municipal Court; maintain security lockers available to the public.
Assist and direct visitors to courtrooms, front counter, and restrooms; assist the public in emergency situations.
Maintain reference and research materials; and maintain and update legal publications as necessary.
Assist in administrative duties such as stuffing envelopes and delivering mail.
Inspect the Municipal Court facility, equipment, and grounds to identify safety hazards, maintenance problems and unsafe working conditions; correct and/or report maintenance deficiencies and safety hazards as appropriate.
Communicate with outside entities about shared security threats.
Perform related work and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of experience as a law enforcement officer.
- Complete and maintain CPR and first aid certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Successful completion of a background test/polygraph examination.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Work is performed primarily in a courthouse under pressure and requires the ability to quickly adjust to changing priorities and demands.
- Ability to stand as much as 6 hours/shift.
- Ability to walk up/down stairs and walk/run to respond to emergencies.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- Shift work in the evening is required.
- Determine if physical force is needed prior to first responders' arrival.
- Stressful elements of this work are considerable, and include exposure to disagreeable situations involving human conflict, anger, hostility, and potential for violence.

Benefit eligibility for the employee and eligible dependents begins the first day of the month following the employee's hire date. Premiums for Delta Dental and HMA Vision are paid by the City on behalf of the employee and eligible dependents. Premiums for Life, LTD, Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage on behalf of the employee are paid by the City. Premiums for HMA Medical and Kaiser Medical coverage are shared by the employee.
An additional benefit is available through a
Voluntary Life Insurance program for the employee, spouse, and children. The employee pays the premiums for this benefit.
It is mandatory that both the City and the employee pay into the
Department of Retirement Systems for Washington State .
Three voluntary
Deferred Compensation programs are available for employee participation.
A
Flexible Spending Plan is available that allows you to make pre-tax contributions for Health Care reimbursement and/or Dependent Care reimbursement for those expenses not covered by medical.
The
Employee Assistance Program EAP is provided free of charge to employees and family members.
