The Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer will play a lead in the identification and assessment of Process Safety and Machinery Safety risks for the Richmond site R&D and facility operations. They will review and report progress to the relevant site forum i.e. EHS Council as well as to other appropriate stakeholders. The EHS Engineer will continue to the development of others by training, coaching and/or mentoring others. They will also provide expert support to audits and inspections. This position will also support other EHS programs as needed. Location: This role is on-site based in Richmond, VA. Role Responsibilities: Process Safety - Ownership of the Process Safety Program and Process Safety Performance Indicators. Coordinate and/or lead process safety PHIRA studies i.e. HAZID, HAZOP/What-If, MEIRA, PSSR, etc. Review planned changes, new projects and ensure risks are identified and appropriately assessed. Track through to completion the implementation of mitigation actions defined for plant process safety scenarios or risks. Present the progress of the process safety programs at relevant EHS councils. Ensure that process safety documentation, including PHIRA studies, mitigation and control measures, Basis of Safety, ALARPs, etc. are up-to-date. Keep gap analysis of EHS and Engineering standards applicable to Process Safety at the site up-to-date, in accordance with the latest issued versions. Represent the site in the Regional Process Security Practice Communities. Train personnel as well as contractors on Process Safety. Ownership of the Process Safety curriculum in My Learning. Act as subject matter expert in area of process safety for incident investigations. Ensure that the site's HAC study is up-to-date and reviewed in its entirety at least every 5 years as set forth in Haleon Global EHS and Engineering Standards. Perform the review of hazardous plant processes (PHR) at least every 5 years. Machinery Safety - Ownership of the site Machinery Safety program and Machinery Safety Performance Indicators. Lead the identification of machinery safety risks through PGA and MSRAs assessments. Track through to completion actions aimed at eliminating and/or mitigating machinery safety risks. Define and deliver the LOTO program for the site. Ensure that plant machinery safety documentation, including PGA valuations, machine risk assessments, safety device diagrams, safety controller programs, etc. are up-to-date, appropriately documented and have the correct retention category. Conduct Inductions on Machinery Safety to site personnel as required. Identify and lead a "Core Team" to deliver on the site’s Machinery Safety program. Assess impact of changes on Machinery Safety risks. Periodically review unmitigated green risks to determine whether they have a cumulative effect or have changed to a higher level and then proceed to mitigate them. Keep gap analysis of Haleon Global EHS and Engineering Standards applicable to Machinery Safety at the plant up-to-date, in accordance with the latest issued versions. Participate in the Machinery Safety Practice Communities of the region. Report quarterly on the Site Machinery Safety Program to the CH Head of Process and Machinery Safety. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical sciences within a manufacturing environment preferably focusing on process equipment. In-depth knowledge of engineering principles and safety regulations. Strong skills related to process safety hazard identification, mitigation/management, including electrical classifications for flammable materials and combustible dusts. Knowledge of process industry standards and regulations. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Ability to analyze processes and technical information and deduce or identify risks. Excellent problem-solving skills. Demonstrated leadership skills. Strong communication skill to clearly express ideas and summarize complex information effectively.
