Atlanta Beltline, Inc. is the official implementation agency for the Atlanta Beltline, the 22-mile rail-to-trail conversion thats one of the largest, most wide-ranging urban redevelopment programs in the United States. The Atlanta Beltline Economic Development Intern will report to the Project Manager in the Economic Development Department, focusing on commercial affordability and digital access initiatives. A key part of the role will involve supporting the Atlanta Beltline Marketplace (ABMP), a small business incubator offering affordable commercial spaces along the trail. This initiative assists food-related and retail businesses in reaching over two million annual trail users. The intern will also contribute to digital access efforts aimed at economic growth and addressing urban issues like health and food access. Additional exposure will include small business support, commercial district support, and workforce development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the economic development department's daily operations, focusing on the Marketplace and Digital Access programs. This includes 60% remote work, 25% on-site for events and meetings, and 15% in the downtown office. Some events occur on nights and weekends (e.g., Second Saturdays, Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade).
  • Support the property management team at Marketplace sites with container access, maintenance, and participant management.
  • Help coordinate events like Second Saturdays and FIFA World Cup 26 activities, along with smart cities pilot projects.
  • Assist with tasks such as preparing digital presentations, writing reports, drafting communications and social media posts, and responding to economic development inquiries.
  • Support data gathering and analysis for economic indicators and prepare grant reports.
  • Participate in ABI's procurement processes and help plan and attend public meetings and community events.

Skills and Qaulifications:

  • Student or recent graduate pursuing a Business Administration, Economic Development, Economics, Civil Engineering, Urban Studies, Digital Communications and Media, Public Policy, Global Studies degree or related field and intensely interested in Economic Development principles.

Experience and Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of the operation of general office equipment (i.e., computer, smartphone, copy machine) and comfortable with virtual meeting environments;
  • Skill in communicating both orally and in written form;
  • Skill in researching complex issues and developing recommended actions;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new and revised procedures, methods, and standards;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise considerable skill in information handling, privacy of records, and judgment;
  • Strong relationship-building skills and stakeholder engagement ability;
  • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints;
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
