Job Description

DWTSurge Contract Internal Investigations Attorney (Remote)

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking an experienced mid-level internal investigations attorney for engagement through the firm’s alternative-track contract attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge. The selected contract attorney will work with the Litigation and Ethics, Compliance and Risk Management practice groups as a dedicated resource supporting a large institutional client program handling high-stakes internal investigations related to a variety of ethics and compliance matters. While attorneys can work remotely, the selected attorney must be barred in their state of residence and a state in which DWT maintains an office.

This contract position will support one of the firm’s marquee clients by scoping and conducting internal investigations into ethics and compliance matters, collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing investigation reports to present findings to senior management. Additionally, the selected attorney will advise clients on compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks, build and enhance compliance programs, and stay current on industry trends and changes in laws and regulations affecting ethics and compliance.

The selected attorney should have experience with anti-corruption compliance, internal investigations, especially related to anti-corruption, fraud, and misconduct, and compliance program building. This contract role requires a strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage complex investigations. The role is client facing and requires a high-level of commitment to excellent client service and responsiveness. Applicants must be strong practitioners who are comfortable and skilled at managing multiple competing priorities, meeting expedited deadlines, and have a demonstrated attention to detail. Attorneys should be able to work independently and exercise good judgement, but should also collaborate easily with various business stakeholders, other lawyers, and support staff to meet objectives within short deadlines.

This contract position offers the flexibility of remote work and expected full-time hours, averaging 37.5 hours per week. Hours may fluctuate depending on the availability of appropriate work. While the engagement is for an initial 6-month contract term, there is a possibility of an extension or renewal of the contract for successful candidates, although any extension or renewal is not guaranteed. We are looking for attorneys interested in establishing an alternative-track working relationship with the firm on an exclusive basis.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years of internal investigations experience in a mid-larger law firm or in-house setting.
  • Residency in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WDC.
  • Attorneys must have active bar admission in their state of residence and in a state where DWT maintains an office (AK, WA, OR, CA, IL, NY, VA, WDC).
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex internal investigations and ethics and compliance matters.
  • Experience with anti-corruption, fraud, and misconduct cases, and compliance program building.
  • A strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage complex investigation cases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish or Portuguese are preferred.
  • Availability to work full-time hours, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Flexibility for anticipated hours to fluctuate as needed.
  • Ability to work remotely with a distributed team.
  • A solutions-oriented approach to anticipate client needs.
  • Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Excellent proactive communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate verbally and in writing, with clients, firm members, and other business contacts.

Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT’s flexible attorney program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This role is eligible for benefits. Due to the structure of the DWTSurge program, DWTSurge employees are not eligible for the firm’s pro bono, DEI, and other activities or opportunities outside of the above stated scope of work.
